The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce has been active for over 57 years now on its mission to enhance economic, cultural and tourist exchange between Brazilians and Arabs. Over the years, the Chamber has come to play a pivotal role in the development of foreign trade between Brazil and the Arabs.

Representing Brazil in the League of Arab States – an organisation comprising 22 independent countries whose official language is the Arabic –, the Arab Brazilian Chamber is renowned for its credibility and strong presence as the champion of the interests of Arab and Brazilian businessmen alongside institutions, governments and companies. The Arab Brazilian Chamber is affiliated with the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture for Arab Countries, which is acknowledged as the sole legitimate representative of the commercial interests of the countries affiliated with the League of Arab States.

In order to attain its goal of creating opportunities, establishing new trade partnerships and fostering business, the organization, which also has offices in the cities of Curitiba and Belo Horizonte, provides a host of basic services, performed by highly skilled professionals, such as: commercial consultation, market surveys, information on public tenders, changes in tax/financial laws, consumption and trade habits, document translation, advertisement, and product labelling and packaging, thus enabling clients to adapt to their target markets. The Arab Brazilian Chamber also offers a document certification service that guarantees the origin of products and services to Arab importers. Certificates are issued under strict observance of the requirements and procedures demanded by importers.

The regular activities of the Arab Brazilian Chamber include promoting trade missions, receiving international delegations, and providing assistance in both Brazilian and Arab territory, organizing seminars, lectures and business roundtables to enable direct contact between businessmen, among others. The organization also promotes participation in trade fairs, in which case it takes care of the entire process, from choice of location to the assembly of stands and designation of a support team, which then remains at the disposal of interested parties for the duration of the event. In order to perform these activities, the Chamber stays in touch with the leading exporting and importing companies in the blocs involved, and also counts on support from embassies and trade offices.

The Arab Brazilian Chamber also maintains the Brazil-Arab News Agency – ANBA, in the Portuguese acronym – www.anba.com.br –, an online news agency working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, that receives over 200,000 visits per month and brings information that is useful not only to those who intend to promote business between the two regions, but also to promote closer cultural ties between Brazil and the Arabs.

The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar composed of 12 months made out of 29 or 30 days with the total of approximately 354 days. The time counting of this calendar starts with the event of Hijra: Muhammad’s emigration from Mecca to Medina on July, 16th 622.

Since the lunar year does not correspond to the solar year, the Islamic months shifts back each year that goes by. Since the Islamic calendar is 11 days shorter than the solar calendar, the Muslin holidays shift to different Season

This is only one of the Professor's works. He has already translated the Koran directly from Arabic into Portuguese. It has been in print since 2005 at the King Fahd Complex, in Medina, Saudi Arabia. He has also launched an Arabic-Portuguese dictionary and translated "New World in the Tropics," a book by Gilberto Freyre, into Arabic.
